Regulated Infrastructures

We own and manage essential infrastructures of the basic natural gas network in Spain, which guarantee the security of energy supply, diversify supplies and act as a back-up for renewable technologies.

We are the sole owners of the Mugardos regasification plant (Galicia) and we have a 25% stake in the Musel E-hub (Asturias).

Mugardos LNG Terminal

The LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal at Mugardos (A Coruña, Galicia) came into operation in 2007.
It is a strategic facility that plays a crucial role in the energy security of Galicia and the northwest of the peninsula.

  • Total containment type storage on shore.

  • ORV and SCV vaporisation technology.

  • Berthing: any size (subject to compatibility) up to 266,000 m3.

  • Storage: 300,000 m3.

  • Regasification: 412,800 Nm3/h.

  • Contribution to the sustainable development of Galicia, to the competitiveness of its industries and to the decarbonisation of its economy as a back-up for renewables.

  • Key role in guaranteeing security of supply in Spain and Europe.

  • Proprietary digital tools for activity management.

  • Unloading and loading of LNG to ships. The Mugardos terminal carries out LNG unloading and loading operations to ships with flow rates of 12,000 and 1,000 m3/h respectively.

  • Gassing up and Cool Down. The plant currently has the most experience in the Spanish gas system in these activities.

  • Storage. The plant’s two storage tanks can store up to 300,000 m3 of LNG.

  • Regasification. The annual regasification capacity is 3.6 bcm.

  • Tanker loading. The plant has an annual loading capacity of 12,775 tanks.

  • Laboratory analysis. The Reganosa laboratory, accredited by UNE EN ISO/IEC 17025, provides analysis services for the composition and properties of natural gas.

Musel E-Hub

In 2023, we acquired 25% of the Musel E-Hub terminal (Gijón, Asturias) in order to create an energy hub in the northwest of the peninsula, strengthen security of supply and take advantage of the synergies of infrastructures close to the Atlantic routes.

  • Total containment type storage on shore.

  • ORV and SCV vaporisation technology.

  • Berthing: 65.000 m3/ 266.000 m3.

  • Storage: 300,000 m3.

  • Regasification: 800.000 Nm3/h.

  • Contribution to the sustainable development of Spain and Europe.

  • Reduction of European energy dependence and diversification of sources.

  • Privileged position in the Atlantic arc.

The terminal operates under a hybrid business model, whereby:

  • A percentage of storage is allocated to marketing under long-term contracts and another percentage to the regulated business.

  • LNG tanker loading and unloading operations are carried out on an unregulated basis.

Tanker loading operations operate under a regulated access regime. The plant has an annual loading capacity of 10,950 tankers.
